One Room Challenge Week 5 (Windows, Seagrass and Decisions)

Now, how can you expect me to get anything accomplished when the weather is this perfect?!!  Yes, spring has finally arrived in New Jersey!  It's about time...and speaking of time, there is not much of that left until the final reveal of my dining room next week.  Here is what I accomplished for Week 5 of the One Room Challenge...

Besides opening the windows and enjoying the warm breezes, I temporarily hung the curtains.  I bought these curtains at Homegoods a few years ago and wasn't sure if I was going to use them.  I actually hung one up a couple weeks ago and decided against them but as the room has evolved, I gave them another try...

Obviously, they need to be streamed/ironed and hung a little neater, but you get the idea.  I just put them up today after my white cotton ones from Pottery Barn arrived.  The white ones just looked a little plain next to the bright white wainscoting in there so I pulled out the Homegoods ones again.  If this room didn't face the street, I would consider leaving the windows bare...I might still consider that...

I actually like them better now that I have some other neutrals in here...like the seagrass rug that arrived!

I must admit, seagrass takes some getting used to, especially after having such a soft rug in here before.  If you have seen my stories on Instagram, you know that my dog, Rosie was not thrilled with it initially.  She's coming around though and believe it or not, my husband and boys actually like it!

It still has a grassy smell and a bit of a green tint to it but I have heard those will fade with time.

I also hung some artwork on both sides of the china cabinet.  I measured a million times and was so nervous hammering those nails in.  I hate to mess up a fresh paint job but luckily, I got it right on the first try.  I bought these prints a few years ago and I like that they add a coastal touch to the room but are subtle enough to blend in.

I also ordered a gold bar cart and a console table that should be arriving any day now.  The console table I really wanted was too expensive so I ordered a simpler one form Pier One that I hope will work.  Besides that, I still have to hang a mirror, more artwork, recover the chairs and accessorize...It's going to be a busy week...

In case you need to get caught up, I listed the links to the first four weeks of my project:

  1. I like those curtains with the pattern on them. They soften the hard lines and go well with the rug. Looking forward to the reveal. You better get busy!

  2. Your dining room looks fantastic! The rug looks so nice. I've considered one of those for years but always worry about having a cat and all of that scratching opportunity. Are you just loving your blue walls? They are so pretty.

  3. I love the texture from the rug. Also, I spy my exact dining room table and chairs from my Michigan house. It broke my heart to sell it, but it would have been all wrong for my Florida house. If you are like me, many memories around that table :-)

  6. I agree with Kim. Now that you have the seagrass rug in place, I think the curtains look fantastic.

  7. The curtains look really cute Shelley! And you know I LOVE a seagrass rug! I have them everywhere, and the smell and the green tint are both gone in a month at the most. It looks so good!
