The Clean and Classic Look of Plantation Shutters

Over the years, I have slowly added plantation shutters to several of my rooms.  Just last week, we had them installed in our living room and I am loving them!

I can finally cross that item off my list of things to do in there.  I wrote a post (last year) about how I planned to make 3 Simple Changes to Lighten Up My Living Room.  Sure, it's taken me awhile and I still have 2 more items to go but hey, progress is progress, right?

I used to have Hunter Douglas Silhouette shades in there which were fine but I always wanted plantation shutters.  They are a bit of an investment so I waited for them to go on sale and ordered them.  This time (and the last few times) I used the company, Sunburst Shutters but this is not a sponsored post and I am not being compensated in any way to mention them.  I just like to share names of companies when I am happy with them!

And I am definitely happy with them...and the shutters!  I like how you can still see out, yet have some privacy.

And if you want to open them all the way, you still can.  One thing that held me back initially was the fact that the middle shutters wouldn't lay flat against the wall when all of them were open.  But now that they are up, it really doesn't bother me.

We could always just open up the middle one if we wanted.  I imagine most of the time if we want to let in a breeze, we will open the windows and then put the shutters back in place anyway.

Because that is the look I was going for in there.  It's a living room but I still want that laid back, slightly tropical vibe.  I can't wait for the sun to start shining so I can take some really good pictures.  (Will the sun EVER shine again?  I am starting to wonder!)

It's been nice to take a little break from obsessing over the dining room.  To catch you up on that - I decided to attempt the One Room Challenge this round and I am a bit crazy lately.  Crazier than usual, that is!

So back to the plantation shutters...As I mentioned, I have plantation shutters in a few other rooms like my home office...
If you want to see more rooms where I have added them, please click over and read my post, Adding More Plantation Shutters.  Every time I add them to a room, I wonder why it took me so long to do it!  They just fit my style and work with my goal to have a clean and classic home!

Do you have any plantation shutters in your home?
I'd love for you to follow along so you don't miss a post!

  1. Your shutters look amazing! Plantation shutters have always been my favorite and always will be.

  2. We only splurged on one window on the front of our home. It's all we felt we could afford at the time. Our salesman talked us into shutters for the entire window which is rounded like yours. I'm so glad we did. Love how finished yours make your room and how much warmer, cozier it feels. Seriously, are shutters ever a bad choice? I don't think so!

    1. Thanks, Cindy! I think shutters can really finish off a room! I am glad you are happy with yours as well!

  3. Good morning Shelley. Plantation shutters are very big in Texas. I put them in my bedroom here in Mass. and just love them. Yours look great! Have a wonderful week.

  4. I love the shutters. I think they are such a clean, classic look. You don't have to add anything else to the windows to have a complete look. They look so nice! And there is nothing like them to block the heat down here in Texas.

  5. I love the shutters. I have always wanted them. Maybe some day.

  6. They look lovely, Shelley! I was so happy that our home had plantation shutters on over half the windows when we bought the house, and we quickly added them to the rest of the windows....they truly are so classic!

  7. The new shutters look fantastic, Shelley! They are just perfect for this space and I think they give it the exact classic look with a hint of tropical that you were going for.

  8. The shutters do look wonderful. The room does look elegant and classic.

  9. We had plantation shutters in one room in our former home and really enjoyed them, so when we bought our Garden Home eleven years ago, we made the investment (sizable!) to put them in every room except the master bedroom. Four of the front rooms face the west and we find the shutters are great energy savers in the summer especially, but all year round as well. Your's look so lovely in your living room. Mine are also the wide blade and I'm so glad I went with that size. You will not regret making the investment in plantation shutters.

  10. I love the plantation shutters. I am considering them for my master bedroom and yours make me want them even more. I will be featuring this tonight at my Swing into Spring party that opens at 8pm EST. Please stop by and pick up an I've Been Featured button. Thanks.

  11. Very pretty! Thanks for sharing at Party in Your PJs!
