Stylish Bloggers

As I mentioned yesterday, Clydia from Three Mango Seeds was sweet enough to send me the
 Stylish Blogger Award!

Thanks again Clydia!  Now that my younger son's fever is under control...(who will be next to get sick in this house?!!), I would like to answer the questions and pass on this award!

As the rules state, I need to list 7 things about myself and then pass on the award to 5-10 blogs.  Since I was lucky enough to receive this award one other time, here is what I listed that time - HERE.
This time, I am going to keep it strictly light hearted and entertainment related.  I have been stuck in the house with sick kids for the past week so I need a bit of an escape!  Here we go:

1.  Not only do I love Keith Urban, but I am also a HUGE Journey fan.  Yes, I still go to concerts and have enjoyed their music throughout all their lead singer changes!  Yes, they are still awesome and if you go to a concert, you will be transported back to your childhood and will know every song!

Here I am with Neal Schon about 10 years ago.
(Not a very flattering picture of me!)

2.  Speaking of Journey music, I am also a big fan of Glee!  I didn't start watching it from the beginning so I have been catching up with all the old episodes.  Love it!  I think Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schu) is just precious and Jane Lynch is the funniest woman on TV....actress, that is, because Ellen is also hysterical!

3.  Speaking of TV.  If you are looking for a good comedy, look no further than Thursday nights for Rules of Engagement!  I swear, this is the funniest show on television!  David Spade and his assistant, "Timmy" are absolutely hysterical!  Hey - and do you remember "Putty" from Seinfeld?  He is one of the stars and is funnier than ever!  Sometimes I laugh so hard that I cry watching this show!  The show recently moved out of the shadow of Two and a Half Men on Monday nights and is doing just great on Thursdays..."Winning!"  Sure, I loved Two and a Half Men too...must admit it was very funny but who knows what's going to happen there...

4.  And if you want a great comedy/drama with lots of great scenery and GORGEOUS houses and beaches, then check out Royal Pains on USA Network.  They just finished this season but I am sure they will be replaying soon!  It is about two brothers from Manhattan who move to the Hamptons and start a concierge Dr. business.  Mark Fauerstein and Paulo Constanzo (no, not George Costanza) - you may remember Paulo from the show "Joey".  He was the cute rocket scientist nephew.  Anyway, the chemistry between the characters is priceless and the houses are amazing!  There...that will make all you decorating bloggers watch the show!

5.  And while we are on a TV roll...does anyone remember the show October Road?  I still miss it!  Even though I own the DVDs (with the added-in series finale), I still have the last episode on my DVR - yes from March of like, 2008.  It was such a great show though!  I am still mad at ABC for not giving October Road the attention it deserved.  The characters were so real - like people you know and grew up with.  And they played great music in every episode.  I miss you October Road!

6.  Are we ever going to move on from TV shows?  Ok, ok - let's move to movies I love then!  There are certain movies that I will sit down and watch in full whenever I come across them while flipping through channels:  I will mention ones that would appeal to you guys for the interiors and scenery:  Only You - Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey, sweet, so funny and the views of Italy and the Amalfi coast are to die for!  Love it!  Honeymoon in Vegas - Sarah Jessica Parker and Nicholas Cage - I still laugh throughout that movie!..."Like unbeatable is not unbeatable!...I know that now!"  The views in Hawaii are incredible!  Of course I will always watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off whenever it is on!  What an 80's classic!  And remember what an 80's house they had - all that floral wallpaper!  Or the 80's decor in Risky Business!  More floral - but a very classic home...oh and didn't you just love the house in the Father of the Bride movies!  So I am totally dating myself with all these 80's movies huh?  Let's move on...

7.  Finally!  And to think I thought this would be a quick post!  Since we are talking about things I enjoy - let's talk chocolate!  Yes, I am addicted.  Not just any chocolate but DARK chocolate.  But hey, it is supposed to be good for you!  (but not in the quantities that I consume it!)  I actually have to hide it from myself.  I will eat whatever is in my house.  That's why I cannot buy it that often.  I love Chocolate Chocolate Chip Haagen Daaz probably the most.  I could never understand how people can let ice cream get frosted over - never happens in my house!

Ok, so that was fun...
Now it is time to go over the rules again:

1.  Thank and link back to the person who awarded you.
(Thanks again Clydia at Three Mango Seeds!)
2.  Share 7 things about yourself.
(Or in my case list seven things I love to ramble on about...)
3.  Award 5-15 blogs that I love/follow.
    (See below)
4.  Contact those bloggers and tell them about the award.
(I'm on my way for a visit!)

Now here are 5 great blogs that I have discovered recently and have begun to follow:

Tammy at Beatrice Banks
Amber at Simple Dwellings
Andrea at Oak Ridge Revival
Laura at Shore(house)Chic

Go check them all out!  You won't be disappointed!

Have a great day!

March 30, 2011

I was shocked the other day to find an email from Clydia at Three Mango Seeds awarding me the
Stylish Blogger Award!
I am so flattered and also had a laugh
that it happened to be the day I was posting about toilets!

Anyway, I was sick last week,
my older son had a high fever over the weekend
and then today my younger son came down with the fever!  Ugghh!

So, I will do my best to get my list to
pass on this award as soon as possible but in the meantime,
I wanted to acknowledge the award
and tell you to go over a visit Clydia's awesome blog!
Check it out!  Three Mango Seeds  Thanks again Clydia!

Adding White to a Red Dining Room

After adding my new wall ledges in the dining room,
I realized I needed some more visual height
on top of my china cabinet...
So I added these white things up there...

Now the three shelves don't overpower the china cabinet.

Yes, that is a fake fern.
It's all I had lying around
but I may put a real plant in there eventually.

I gotta rearrange the inside of the cabinet one of these days...
A little too cluttered, don't ya think!

So what do you think?
Did adding white on top help?

Or am I just fooling myself?
Maybe what I really need to do is
move the 3 shelves down a bit and maybe a little closer together?

Be honest, I won't cry - well, maybe I will...just a little.

Toilet Talk

In 10 days we will be ripping out the tile in our guest bathroom and laundry room and installing new tile! Yay! (When I say "we", I mean  - I will be standing there watching while the tile guys rip out the tile!...)
Anyway, I am also replacing the beige toilet (which always gets clogged).  So far, I know I want it to be white and have a good flush...but I can't decide on anything else.  That's where you guys come in.  Because it is just SO much fun to talk about toilets, I am asking you for advice!

My existing toilet is an American Standard, two piece, elongated bowl, regular height, beige.

I want to stay with the elongated but am thinking possibly:
Comfort height aka Right Height?
One piece?
Maybe more decoratiive?
White (most likely)

Of course the one piece and the more decorative will make the cost go up...substantially.  I keep telling myself:  It's a toilet - why does it matter?

Well, I guess it does.  I guess the main requirement is a good flush!

I am thinking either the American Standard Cadet 3 Kohler Cimmaron.

Oh yeah, I haven't showed you the tile I chose yet...
The new one is on the left.  The one on the right is the existing hallway...(oh and the tip of my shoe!)  It doesn't look that different in the photo but in person they go really well together.  Plus it will be straight instead of diagonal in the bathroom.  I wanted them to flow together without looking like I tried to match them.

Anyway, back to the toilet!
Do you have any you would like to recommend?
Thanks, I really appreciate the help!

It happens to me all the time...
I see something I like,
then I wait and "think about it" for awhile.

Sometimes, I am lucky.
I go back to the store,
buy the item and return home happily.

Then there are the other times...
"I'm sorry that is sold out."
"We discontinued that item."

Here's an example:
A few years ago I fell in love with this buffet from Domain.
(I took the picture on my old phone so it is a little dull.)
Yes, you know where I am going here...
Domain suddenly went out of business and by the time I found out,
this buffet was GONE!

But if I didn't spend months thinking about it,
then it would be sitting in my dining room right now!

See this adorable Pottery Barn frame?
Well, I always planned on buying more sometime...
Not going to happen - discontinued!

See these great plates from TJ Maxx (or maybe Marshalls)?
Not in the store anymore!
I only bought 4 but I am hoping they will show up again someday!

Ahhh, my Royal Doulton Provence Noir Dinnerware....
I fell in love with it in the Horchow catalog
but then was lucky enough to find an outlet!
I started buying the pieces a little at a time...
Then boom! - The Royal Doulton Outlet disappeared!
Now I only have about half of what I want.
Since I am too cheap to pay full price,
I am constantly looking for sales online of this pattern.

And you would think I would learn from this...
Probably not.
I am sure I will leave the store,"thinking about it" next time I go shopping!

How about you?
Do you ever hesitate and then lose out on something?

Spring Flowers

The warm weather these past few days
has me thinking about spring flowers!

Since they haven't started blooming yet,
here are some shots of flowers in the Caribbean...

Love that pink!

An ocean view doesn't hurt either!

I love hibiscus!

I never get tired of looking at orchids!

Especially ones this color!

And these irises will be blooming in my yard
at the end of May!
Can't wait!

What does this warm weather get you thinking about?

Spring Bakers Rack

I am constantly changing this baker's rack
since it is right in my kitchen where I see it

This time I threw in some white.

Now it feels light and springy.

I have been thinking about painting the bottom
 either white or black.
I have never been thrilled with the orangy-brown stain color
since I ordered it without seeing it in person.
It really looks orange in the sunlight!

It was the swirly iron part of the rack
that attracted me in the first place.

Just another project to add to the list!

Have you ever settled for something
 that was not perfect ...
thinking it would either grow on you,
or you would change it someday?

Wine Country Mantel

My mantel has pretty much looked like this since I cleared out the Christmas decor.

Old Fireplace Mantel
Yes, I know I have to get some wood in there...
AND get rid of those awful fireplace tools!

Mantel Before
Kind of boring...I really would love to paint that mantel too!

Fireplace After - with Wine Country Theme
And here is the mantel now.
(I know, I still didn't get rid of those tools!)

Wine Country Mantel
I brought in the wine picture from another room.

Wine Themed Mantel
I left the topiaries because
the green and their height
mirror the wine bottles in the picture.

Wine Themed Mantel with greens and white for spring
So where is the Caribbean influence in all this?...

There is none...sometimes there is no "Calypso", just "Country"!
White Pitchers and greens for spring

Green and White for Spring - A Wine Themed Mantel
But at least the white makes it feel kind of springy!

**As you can tell by the date, this is an old post and we have remodeled our fireplace since then!  Stop over to Island Dreaming Mantel to see the fireplace and a more recent spring version!

Have you added many spring touches to your home?

I would love for you follow along so you don't miss a post!
