Our beadboard ceiling
was installed in the laundry room on Saturday
and I couldn't be happier!
Well, I could be happier
if I didn't have to strain my neck painting it tomorrow,
but I am thrilled with how it turned out!
As you might recall,
I asked for advice about which way to run the boards.
Most of you agreed that that boards should run the length of the room.
So what did I do?
I ran them the width instead.
I know, how ungrateful for the advice I asked for...
But I had my reasons...
1. Apparently, the boards should run perpendicular to the joists so you can nail into solid wood. If you do it the opposite way, you have to add a layer of plywood.
2. The room is only 7' wide by 8' 2" long so I didn't think it made too much of a difference.
3. In my mind, I pictured the ceiling going the width and as we were deciding, I kept trying to convince myself that I "should" run it the long way. Whenever I try to convince myself of something, I usually end up regretting the decision.
4. As you can see by the picture below, the hallway runs along side of the laundry room and I liked the way the boards ran in the same direction of the hallway next to the room. I was also afraid of the laundry room feeling like too much of a hallway itself, if I ran the boards the length of the room.
Hallway/Laundry Room
So, here are the before and after shots.
Of course I still have to paint over the primer
AND
change that ridiculous little light!
BEFORE:
Sorry about the glare!
AFTER:
I am SO happy!
I have been finding any excuse to walk in here.
Does anyone need any laundry done?
Does anyone remember
what my laundry room looked like way back when?

This was way before the cabinets,
the new floor, the beadboard ceiling...scary!

I want to thank everyone who stopped by to give their advice.
I seriously took every comment into consideration
and I really appreciate your opinions!
Did you get any projects done this weekend?

I just found your site and love it. I am getting so much inspiration from everything you have done so far.

The direction we are going happens to work with the joists and the length of the bead boards we bought. Small kitchen... About the size of your laundry room. LOL
ReplyDeleteIt is just under 8 feet x 11 feet, so just a tad bigger :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!
I love the look! We are building a house and I am debating about doing the kitchen, dinning room and family room ceilings with bead board since it is open concept, oh and the powder room, too. What do you think about doing the entire space? Thanks! =)
ReplyDeleteIf the whole area is open, it might be hard to find a stopping point ...so I say go for it! Check out Pinterest and see if you can find some pictures of open areas with that idea. I have seen it done it kitchens and it is just beautiful!
